Working online means I’m incentivized to find cozy spaces to work. I know, I know… but somebody’s gotta do it ;)

Living on the Olympic Peninsula has been a wonderful experience, and though it isn’t my long-term home, I’m enjoying it so thoroughly while I’m here.

I thought I’d share my top three favorite places to work in the Victorian seaport community of Port Townsend in case anyone reading this is going to be in the area soon and needs a place to get some work done.

Let’s go!

Better Living Through Coffee

I work here more than anywhere else in town, besides home. In fact, I’m typing out this very blog post from Better Living.

It can get a little crowded, but if you come at the right times, it’s euphoria. Like right now, there’s many open tables, most everyone here looks to be working online or reading or talking quietly with a friend. Acoustic mandolin music with a female vocalist hums softly, and my Cafe Vienois (decaf) is hitting the spot. Two entire walls are made of windows and the view outside is the Salish Sea—the coffee shop sits right on the Salish Sea wharf-style— and the North Cascade mountain range in the distance.

I already have nostalgia for this place years from now when I’m gone.

Velocity Coffee

When Better Living is too busy, or I just need a change of scenery, I go over to Velocity. This coffee shop is situated within the Wooden Boat Foundation, and has big windows the sea air wafts through.

Port Townsend is an old Victorian seaport village with a strong arts and maritime culture. Working at Velocity, you can hear wooden boats being worked on outside, and see the mountains in the distance and the sea at your side.

This image a local photographer (Jen Lee Light) snapped of me as I worked in the window at Velocity one day in late summer.

Pippa’s Tea

And more recently, in the winter months, I’ve been enjoying Pippa’s!

I think this is because they have a cozy fireplace inside, and a quiet calm environment. And of course, I like to fancy myself a tea connoisseur. Um, and Pippa’s has real scones. Have you ever had a proper scone, with clotted cream and jam? Oh my. Oh yes.

Dear clients, these are the inspiring places your websites get built! Doesn’t that make you happy?

It sure does me.

If you’re someone reading this who’s going to be in Port Townsend, here’s an article I wrote recently for Explore Washington State which you’ll probably find useful: Spending A Day in Port Townsend.

Enjoy!
