Most bloggers eventually hit a point where they wonder if all they’re doing is in vain.
Do people really make a substantial income merely blogging, or is this all a hoax?!
I get many emails from frustrated bloggers who wonder what they’re doing wrong, with all kinds of ideas of what it could be. Some wonder if their friend who told them that “Squarespace is not good for blogging” is right, and “should they switch to Wordpress instead?”
Or maybe it’s all because they “aren’t optimizing their headings in the right way?!”
I can assure you that it’s none of the above.
I can also assure you that, yes, you can make a substantial passive income from blogging alone. You can do that by offering digital products, using affiliate links, and other ideas that I discuss here [Monetize Your Squarespace Blog For Passive Income], but you can also accomplish a substantial income relying on ads alone.
Making a substantial income blogging requires this primary thing: TRAFFIC.
Focus on increasing traffic before worrying With monetization
I stumbled upon a hobbit hole last week! Not really relevant to this post, but that’s okay.
Let’s examine…
How many visitors to your site are you getting each month?
Less than 10,000? If so, then let me cut straight to the chase and tell you this is why blogging is not yet fruitful for you.
It boils down to this:
You need more traffic
How do you get more traffic?
By Publishing relevant SEO-driven content regularly

Some Numbers to help you understand Ad Income:
At 3,000 visitors a month, you will not see fruitful monetization.
At 10,000 visitors per month you can begin using the ad platform Ezoic, but even then you won't see anything truly substantial as far as income. Maybe some coffee or gas money for the month. Still, it’s better than nothing. I recommend signing up for Ezoic once you hit 10k visits a month.
Once you reach 25,000 visitors per month, things begin to amp up and you can apply to better ad networks.
When you hit 50,000 views, you can join MediaVine and really start to see more of a passive monthly income.
It only grows from there.
For example, roughly 175,000 pageviews each month averages out to about $4,000 a month ($48,000 each year) in passive income! Not bad.
So pageviews are everything. I wouldn't worry too much about monetization until you're up to at least 10,000 visitors to your site each month.
This means, your focus should be on...
SEO-driven content creation!
You need to publish at least one new article each week, ideally two, and they need to be done with a solid SEO understanding, not randomly.
